COURSE DESCRIPTION:
- This unique course combines the basics of internet fraud and law.
- It starts by explaining types of Cyberfraud and then proceeds to discuss the financial, personal, and professional impact of Cyberfraud, concluding with the fact that it may not be a matter of if, but when the attendees may be impacted;
- Next, the discussion shifts to Law. Specifically, federal laws regarding Cyberfraud are highlighted. Importantly, actual examples of Cyberfraud in the form of lawsuits involving well-known companies are shown.
- The course concludes by identifying strategies to reduce, if not prevent, Cyberfraud in the participants’ professional and personal settings.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completing this course, the participants should be able to:
- Understand BEC (Business Email Compromise), EAC (Email Account Compromise), Wire fraud, the underground hacker marketplace/dark web, Romance and job scams, Spyware, and other technical forms of cyberattacks.
- Recognize attempts of spoofing, phishing, and wire fraud by looking at real-life examples including emails.
- Understand the following legal claims that can arise because of cyberfraud and data breach liability: Negligence, Breach of fiduciary duty, Breach of contract, Unjust enrichment, Negligent misrepresentation, Breach of consumer protection laws including Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUPTA), and Violation of Florida Information Protection Act (FIPA). Display and discuss actual lawsuits based on these claims.
- Identify and discuss the types of damages a victim can claim in a cyberfraud/data breach lawsuit including loss of funds, lost time, identity theft, future harm, and attorney’s fees/costs.
